We're down to $120,000

New Mexico's Governor Bill Richardson just said on KOA that the Obama Tax plan has NOW moved down to $120,000. It started at $250,000, then it was $200,000, then it was $150,000, and Now it is $120,000.

Transcript of Governor Bill Richardson: What Obama wants to do is is he is basically looking at $120 thousand and under among those that are in the middle class and there is a tax cut for those.

Barack $250,000:

Barack Obama: $200,000:

Joe Biden: $150,000:

Bill Richardson: $120,000

The Brits have a way with words

You have to pinch yourself – a Marxisant radical who all his life has been mentored by, sat at the feet of, worshipped with, befriended, endorsed the philosophy of, funded and been in turn funded, politically promoted and supported by a nexus comprising black power anti-white racists, Jew-haters, revolutionary Marxists, unrepentant former terrorists and Chicago mobsters, is on the verge of becoming President of the United States. And apparently it’s considered impolite to say so.

- Melanie Philips, The Spectator ( UK ) 10/14/08

She sure nailed it solidly.

Interpretation of the Constitution

Looking back over the Obamian utterances that have been reported over the last week or so, I have to rate this one way up at the top:

"To that extent, as radical as I think people try to characterize the Warren Court, it wasn’t that radical. It didn’t break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the founding fathers in the Constitution, at least.."

- Barack Obama, in his radio interview in 2001, the interview that his campaign really did not want us to hear.

The Warren Court wasn't that radical because it didn't break free from the essential constraints placed in the Constitution by those who wrote it, signed it, and ratified it.

If they had "broken free" of those essential Constitutional constraints, would they not have acted unconstitutionally?

Why do we have a Constitution, if not to provide "essential constraints" against the government?

McCain not getting credit from Latinos

McCain not getting credit from Latinos

This is a commentary by CNN's Ruben Navarette, Jr.

In his commentary, Navarette points out the very little that Obama has done for Latinos and the illegal immigration 'issue':

Maybe Democrats are waiting for a potential President Obama to lead the way. But the issue isn't even on Obama's radar.

He voted for a pointless Senate bill calling for the construction of 700 miles of border fencing (he later said he regretted that vote); proposed a "poison pill" amendment intended to gut the guest worker program; lost the Latino vote to Hillary Clinton in part because he was so enthralled with the politics of black-and-white that he overlooked the Latino electorate; and suggested that he would not get around to comprehensive immigration reform in the first 100 days of his administration.

Navarette then goes on to point out some of the constructive things that McCain and Palin have done, and have spoken about:

Democrats are lucky to have Republican boogeymen like Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-CO, who uses immigration to scare up votes and campaign cash. Tancredo isn't just anti-illegal immigrant. He's anti-immigrant.

This modern day "Know Nothing" tried to limit visas for high-skilled workers from China and India, argued that real Americans speak English, called Miami a "third world country," and proposed a moratorium on all immigration - including the legal kind. And, now that he is retiring from Congress, Tancredo is suggesting that he might run for Colorado governor in 2010.

Tancredo's least favorite Republican is -- guess who? -- John McCain. That's because the Arizona senator knows a nativist when he sees one and hasn't been shy about criticizing Tancredo and other members of his own party when necessary. He did just that in a recent telephone interview with me.

Tancredo is going to take a shot at the governor's office in 2010? Surely not. Surely the Republicans can do better than this. Can't they? Oh, please...say Tancredo ain't so...

As for the Saracuda:

Meanwhile, during a recent interview on Spanish-language television, Gov. Sarah Palin declared her support for comprehensive immigration reform. She said that, while she doesn't favor a "total amnesty" (without conditions), she does support giving illegal immigrants a path to earned legalization.

People have to "follow the rules," she said, but they should also be "treated equally and fairly in this country."

Splendid. We can start by judging political figures on their own merits instead of giving some a free ride while punishing others for sins they didn't commit.

What a concept. Aren't any Latinos other than Ruben Navarette really looking at Obama and the missing plank in the Democrats' platform?

"...we have nothing to fear but fear itself..."

From the La Junta Tribune-Democrat:

"...nothing to fear but fear itself..."

"I've heard that before," said DinkyDau Billy, as we sat contemplating the sunrise over the Holy Land.

"You dolt," said Tookie, "it's in Roosevelt's first inaugural address."

"Tookie! Mind your manners!" warned Leece, who doesn't tolerate much smartmouthing from children, no matter how precocious the child might be.

Tookie visibly chilled a bit.

"Sorry, Unca Billy, but I was feeling a bit Froggy there," she said.

"Isn't Froggy your sister?" asked Billy.

Toot Sweet rolled her eyes. Tayler "Froggy" Lee is in fact The Volleyball Queen, who drives Tookie slightly nuts by practicing her serves against the side of the house.

"I meant more recently," continued Billy, "I've heard it more recently. Also that business about the economy being strong."

We were discussing the previous evening's seminar up at OJC, where Mack Myers and Abbas Mirakhor had given an excellent layman's presentation on the current economic fiasco. Mirakhor had opened his remarks with that famous quote from Roosevelt's first inaugural address.

"Yes, you heard it from John McCain, about the economy being fundamentally strong," said Leece, "but the Mainstream Media went nuts and ridiculed him for it."

"You also heard it here back on September 18," Tookie told him.

Fundamentally

"They pretty much shied away from the political aspect of it," Leece observed.

"Yep. Mirakhor said he could name names and assign responsibility - or blame- but that wouldn't do much good at this point," I agreed, "though I think it should be part of the process, if for no other reason than to make sure those people like Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, and the Eunuch of the Treasury don't get their dirty fingers in the pie again."

We all agreed on that.

OJC President Jim Rizzuto welcomes economists Dr. Mack Myers and Dr. Abbas Mirakhor to the evening's seminar.

Dr. Mack Myers had a folksy style as he spoke about the agricultural component of the economy.

Dr. Abbas Mirakhor used scribble pads to illustrate his points throughout his presentation.

"Flush with cash..."

You betcha. Obama is 'flush with cash', and is going to present his 30 minute commercial on 3 major networks tonightat 8 PM ET.

Remember when he said he was going to accept only public financing? If not, Campbell Brown, over on CNN, can refresh your memory:

Obama breaks promise on campaign finance

where she writes:

Without question, Obama has set the bar at new height with a truly staggering sum of cash. And that is why as we approach this November, it is worth reminding ourselves what Barack Obama said last November.

One year ago, he made a promise. He pledged to accept public financing and to work with the Republican nominee to ensure that they both operated within those limits.

Then it became clear to Sen. Obama and his campaign that he was going to be able to raise on his own far more cash than he would get with public financing. So Obama went back on his word.

He broke his promise and he explained it by arguing that the system is broken and that Republicans know how to work the system to their advantage. He argued he would need all that cash to fight the ruthless attacks of 527s, those independent groups like the Swift Boat Veterans. It's funny though, those attacks never really materialized.

The Washington Post pointed out recently that the bad economy has meant a cash shortage among the 527s and that this election year they have been far less influential.

The courageous among Obama's own supporters concede this decision was really made for one reason, simply because it was to Obama's financial advantage.

On this issue today, former Sen. Bob Kerrey of Nebraska, an Obama supporter, writes in The New York Post, "a hypocrite is a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue -- who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings. And that, it seems to me, is what we are doing now."

This should not be surprising. Obama is a fellow to whom 'friendship' is nothing more than a political expedient. He will embrace you if you have something he thinks he needs but if he thinks you have become a liability, he will 'distance' himself from you.

He sees nothing wrong with illegal voter registration. After all, he said, they haven't actually voted yet.

He sees nothing wrong with untraceable campaign contributions.

His position changes on any issue, depending on the makeup of the crowd he is addressing.

The man is a study in situational ethics, in situational morality.

Obama accepting untraceable donations

From WAPO:

Obama accepting untraceable donations

Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign is allowing donors to use largely untraceable prepaid credit cards that could potentially be used to evade limits on how much an individual is legally allowed to give or to mask a contributor's identity, campaign officials confirmed.

Faced with a huge influx of donations over the Internet, the campaign has also chosen not to use basic security measures to prevent potentially illegal or anonymous contributions from flowing into its accounts, aides acknowledged. Instead, the campaign is scrutinizing its books for improper donations after the money has been deposited.

The Obama organization said its extensive review has ensured that the campaign has refunded any improper contributions, and noted that Federal Election Commission rules do not require front-end screening of donations.

In recent weeks, questionable contributions have created headaches for Obama's accounting team as it has tried to explain why campaign finance filings have included itemized donations from individuals using fake names, such as Es Esh or Doodad Pro. Those revelations prompted conservative bloggers to further test Obama's finance vetting by giving money using the kind of prepaid cards that can be bought at a drugstore and cannot be traced to a donor.

Es Esh? Doodad Pro?

Well...as long as Obama manages to 'distance' himself from Es Esh and Doodad Pro, who are probably voting in Ohio, it should be OK.

Right along with ACORN, the PLO connection, the Bill Ayers connection, the Rezko connection, and all the rest...

Why does this stinketh so?

Sen. John McCain's campaign has also had questionable donations slip through.

Dan Pfeiffer, Obama's communication's director, said that "no organization can fully insulate itself from these problems. The McCain campaign has accepted contributions from fraudulent contributors like 'A for You,' 'Adorable Manabat,' 'The Gun Shop,' and 'Jesus II' and hundreds of anonymous donors."

But R. Rebecca Donatelli, who handles online contributions for the McCain operation and the RNC, said security measures have been standard in the GOP nominee's fundraising efforts throughout the campaign. She said she was "flabbergasted" to learn that the Obama campaign accepts prepaid cards.

Then we have:

Juan Proaño, whose technology firm handled online contributions for John Edwards's presidential primary campaign, and for John F. Kerry's presidential campaign and the Democratic National Committee in 2004, said it is possible to require donors' names and addresses to match those on their credit card accounts. But, he said, some campaigns are reluctant to impose that extra layer of security.

"Honestly, you want to have the least amount of hurdles in processing contributions quickly," Proaño said.

"Honestly"? Did Proaño mean to crack a funny? But I take his point. Those 'hurdles', like checking up on voter registrations, can be so...hindering...to getting your guy elected.

Why don't we just all stay home, not even bother to vote, and watch The One win by a landslide on non-existent votes?

The second Bill of Rights

This one is making the rounds now. Kaptur made this comment in Toledo in mid-October.

Not too long ago, United States Congresscritter Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio) warmed up the crowd for Obama in Toledo. Among other things, she called for a Second Bill of Rights guaranteeing all Americans a job, health care, homes, an education, and a fair playing field for business and farmers. It was reported in the Toledo Blade:

U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D. Toledo) whipped the crowd up before Mr. Obama took the stage yesterday telling them that America needed a Second Bill of Rights guaranteeing all Americans a job, health care, homes, an education, and a fair playing field for business and farmers.

I have this rather interesting collection of documents. They comprise a pretty good representation of Constitutions and National Charters from various nations around the globe. I use them in parts of my lesson plans for the law enforcement academies in which I have taught.

From the 1977 Constitution of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics:

Part II The State and the Individual, Chapter 7 The Basic Rights, Freedoms, and Duties of Citizens of the USSR:

Article 40. Citizens of the USSR have the right to work (that is, to guaranteed employment and pay in accordance wit the quantity and quality of their work, and not below the state-established minimum), including the right to choose their trade or profession, type of job and work in accordance with their inclinations, abilities, training and education, with due account of the needs of society.

This right is ensured by the socialist economic system, steady growth of the productive forces, free vocational and professional training, improvement of skills, training in new trades or professions, and development of the systems of vocational guidance and job placement.

Article 41. Citizens of the USSR have the right to rest and leisure.

This right is ensured by the establishment of a working week not exceeding 41 hours, for workers and other employees, a shorter working day in a number of trades and industries, and shorter hours for night work; by the provision of paid annual holidays, weekly days of rest, extension of the network of cultural, educational, and health-building institutions, and the development on a mass scale of sport, physical culture, and camping and tourism; by the provision of neighborhood recreational facilities, and of other opportunities for rational use of free time.
The length of collective farmers' working and leisure time is established by their collective farms.

Article 42. Citizens of the USSR have the right to health protection.

This right is ensured by free, qualified medical care provided by state health institutions; by extension of the network of therapeutic and health-building institutions; by the development and improvement of safety and hygiene in industry; by carrying out broad prophylactic measures; by measures to improve the environment; by special care for the health of the rising generation, including prohibition of child labour, excluding the work done by children as part of the school curriculum; and by developing research to prevent and reduce the incidence of disease and ensure citizens a long and active life.

Article 43. Citizens of the USSR have the right to maintenance in old age, in sickness, and in the event of complete or partial disability or loss of the breadwinner.

The right is guaranteed by social insurance of workers and other employees and collective farmers; by allowances for temporary disability; by the provision by the state or by collective farms of retirement pensions, disability pensions, and pensions for loss of the breadwinner; by providing employment for the partially disabled; by care for the elderly and the disabled; and by other forms of social security.

Article 44. Citizens of the USSR have the rights to housing.

This right is ensured by the development and upkeep of state and socially-owned housing; by assistance for co-operative and individual house building; by fair distribution, under public control, of the housing that becomes available through fulfilment of the programme of building well-appointed dwellings, and by low rents and low charges for utility services. Citizens of the USSR shall take good care of the housing allocated to them.

Article 45. Citizens of the USSR have the right to education.

This right is ensured by free provision of all forms of education, by the institution of universal, compulsory secondary education, and broad development of vocational, specialised secondary, and higher education, in which instruction is oriented toward practical activity and production; by the development of extramural, correspondence and evening courses, by the provision of state scholarships and grants and privileges for students; by the free issue of school textbooks; by the opportunity to attend a school where teaching is in the native language; and by the provision of facilities for self-education.

It's already been written up for us. All we have to do is blow off the dust left by the Berlin Wall crumbling, and it's ready for use! Like, wowsers!

Joltin' Joe the theologian

Using Religion to Attract Catholic Voters While Denying Church Teachings Is Insulting

That's a short article by Cal Thomas. Here is a comment from that article:

Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Joe Biden spoke about his views on abortion in an interview with The News Journal of Delaware earlier this month. He told his home state’s newspaper “I know that my church has wrestled with this for 2,000 years.”

That's a really odd thing to say. I don't remember any wrestling at all over the abortion 'issue' when I was a kid, in the Catholic church. The Church was quite straightforward about its opposition to abortion. So I was thinking of sending Joe an email telling him that he'd stuck his foot in his mouth again, but the bishop commanding the Diocese of Wilmington (Delaware)beat me to it:

Catholic Church has made no exception regarding abortion since ancient times

Bishop W. Francis Malooly wrote:

This Sunday, all the parishes in the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington will pray the Litany of St. Thomas More, martyr and patron saint of statesmen, politicians and lawyers. We will ask St. Thomas More to intercede so all statesmen and politicians may be courageous and effective in their defense and promotion of the sanctity of human life. We hope Sen. Biden will carefully listen to the Church’s 2,000 years of testimony on abortion and that he will join in the defense and promotion of the sanctity of life.

Nope, Not a lot of 'wrestling' going on with that one. One can only wonder if Joe will show up for the exercise.

Remember not too long ago when Nancy Pelosi made similar comments and got her butt snapped by a couple of heavy hitters in the Church?

More of that Obamian 'distancing'

LA Times Refuses to Release Tape of Obama Praising Controversial Activist

Some excerpts:

According an LA Times article written by Peter Wallsten in April, Obama was a "friend and frequent dinner companion" of Rashid Khalidi, who from 1976 to 1982 was reportedly a director of the official Palestinian press agency, WAFA, which was operating in exile from Beirut with the PLO.
(there is a link to that original story in this one)

and

Obama addressed an audience during a 2003 farewell dinner for Khalidi, who was Obama's colleague at the University of Chicago, before his departure for Columbia University in New York. Obama said his many talks with Khalidi and his wife Mona stood as "consistent reminders to me of my own blind spots and my own biases."

and

...Obama said in his toast that he hoped his relationship with Khalidi would continue even after the professor left Chicago. "It's for that reason that I'm hoping that, for many years to come, we continue that conversation -- a conversation that is necessary not just around Mona and Rashid's dinner table ... [but around] this entire world."

yet we have this:

In recent months Obama has distanced himself from the man the Times says he once called a friend. "He is not one of my advisers. He's not one of my foreign policy people," Obama said at a campaign event in May. "He is a respected scholar, although he vehemently disagrees with a lot of Israel's policy."

Friendship sure is a matter of convenience and politics with Obama, isn't it? He seems to be 'distancing' himself from just about everybody he ever associated with back in the day.

Former Weather Underground terrorists Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn reportedly attended the dinner as well. They too have been 'distanced'.

Why is the Los Angeles Times refusing to release the video tape?

Well...this might have something to do with that:

The Los Angeles Times endorsed Obama for president on October 19.

Redistribution of wealth: land ownership, or the vast right wing conspiracy

"Pretty good article in the Chieftain this morning, hey wot?" DinkyDau Billy asked, as we sat munching Grandma's cookies and washing them down with convenience store cappies. We were all warming the bench in front of the Food Market.

"You mean the one by Pete Roper, the spokesperson for the PCEOC?" asked Leece.

"Yep. That one," answered Billy.

"I think he missed a few things," she told him, "something he is wont to do when he is in his omsbudsman role."

"Got somethin' cookin'?" he asked.

"Why don't you adopt one of those 'wait and see' postures," Leece suggested.

"If the FM were to install a coffee bar or even a convenience store cappie machine they'd make a killing from the downtown crowd. Shoot, the fishwrapper staff would keep 'em in business," I observed.

"You aren't supposed to call it 'the fishwrapper' since you take pictures and write stuff for 'em," argued Tookie, somewhat sensibly.

"I do it in the most fraternal sort of way," I kicked back, "you know, kind of like the fraternal order of socialism."

"Huh. Socialism. Hey. Hey. Back ta that artikel, boy howdy, but that's a redistribution of wealth if ever I saw one," Billy tossed in.

"Yep. Land ownership has always been one of the main bases of personal wealth in humankind's long history of private property rights," Leece noted.

"There's really no need for any one person to own all that land," Tookie said, humming L'Internationale, "they need to give it to the government. All that land just breeds radical thought processes. Pretty soon people start thinking like capitalists."

"What's that you'se hummin'?" Billy asked.

"The new anthem of the Democratic Party," she replied.

"Oh. Hey. Hey. Ain't that chairperson a the local Dems on that coalition board?" Billy asked.

"Last time I heard, yes," I told him.

"Huh. Wunner how all this socialistic redistribution a wealth sits with them sons a the soil, what with all that rugged independence and individualism an all?"

That was a good question. The easy answer was easy, of course.

"Well, there is not socialistic bent here, Billy, all you have to do is ask the Democrats. Just like there is not real problem with voter registration fraud or anything else," Tookie pointed out, "it's all a figment of the fevered imaginations of the vast right wing conspirators."

"Aha. So it's just like Billy Burton says. It's a conspiracy involving John McCain, FOXNews, and people like you?" Billy asked.

"Yep. And you," she said to him, "and you and you," she said to Leece and to me.

"I'm gonna send Billy Burton one a my AFDB's," Billy announced, "cuz he really needs one."

We sat there sipping our cappies and conspiring.

Obama Affinity to Marxists Dates Back to College Days

Here's another one from our co-conspirators over on FoxNews:

Obama Affinity to Marxists Dates Back to College Days

Some excerpts:

Barack Obama laughs off charges of socialism. Joe Biden scoffs at references to Marxism. Both men shrug off accusations of liberalism.

But Obama himself acknowledges that he was drawn to socialists and even Marxists as a college student. He continued to associate with Marxists later in life, even choosing to launch his political career in the living room of a self-described Marxist, William Ayers, in 1995, when Obama was 34.

Obama's affinity for Marxists began when he attended Occidental College in Los Angeles.

"To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully," the Democratic presidential candidate wrote in his memoir, "Dreams From My Father." "The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists."

To avoid being mistaken for a sellout? What does that mean? Did he just hang around these guys to provide an impression? How honest is that? What does he mean? "I'm really a closet Republican but I chose my friends carefully so no one would know." Is that what that statement means?

The whole world wonders...

Then we have this:

Obama supporters point out that plenty of Americans flirt with radical ideologies in college, only to join the political mainstream later in life. But Obama, who made a point of noting how "carefully" he chose his friends in college, also chose to launch his political career in the Chicago living room of Ayers, a domestic terrorist who in 2002 proclaimed: "I am a Marxist."

Boy howdy, but he had Ayers fooled, hey wot?

and then:

Also present at that meeting was Ayers' wife, fellow terrorist Bernardine Dohrn, who once gave a speech extolling socialism, communism and "Marxism-Leninism."

and one last one:

National Journal magazine ranked Obama as the most liberal member of the Senate. The publication is far from conservative, employing such journalists as Linda Douglass, who resigned in May to become Obama's traveling press secretary.

Is Obama a duck?

You know.

If it quacks and walks like a duck, it must be a duck.

Joltin' Joe does some 'break' dancing

Or, Joltin' Joe is dancing around the tax break.

Yesterday, Joltin' Joe foot-in-mouthed again: During a satellite interview in Scranton, PA, Joltin' Joe now says the Obama campaign will only look to cut taxes on those making less than $150,000.

Joe Biden: “Spreading the wealth was not--he was talking about is all of the tax breaks have gone to the very, very wealthy. For example you have right now, this year, under the old tax policy that was just – that was put in by George Bush, people making an average 1.4 million a year, good people, decent people, patriotic – they’re going to get an $87 billion tax break. What we’re saying is that $87 billion tax break doesn’t need to go to people making an average of 1.4 million, it should go like it used to. It should go to middle class people -- people making under $150,000 a year.” (Joe Biden, Interview With WNEP Scranton, 10/27/08)

Here it is:

Well, it used to be that it was $250,000 made you wealthy enough to be one of the money-grubbing capitalist oppressors, one of the bourgeoisie. Then the Obamians dropped it to $200,000.

Now, all it takes to be one of those unpatriotic money-grubbing capitalist oppressors of the common man is $150,000.

I gotta wonder...when are we going to get it down to where I am not only a co-conspirator with FoxNews but also one of those money-grubbing capitalists? They still have quite a ways to go, but dropping it in $50,000 chunks might get me into Club Bourgeoisie just before Election Day.

Wayda go, Joltin' Joe.

The term, bourgeoisie, is widely used in many non-English speaking countries as an approximate equivalent of upper class (found in the Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels).

In common usage the term has pejorative connotations suggesting either undeserved wealth, or lifestyles, tastes, and opinions that lack the sophistication of the rich or the authenticity of the intellectual or the poor. It is rare for people in the English speaking world to identify themselves as members of the bourgeoisie, although many self-identify as middle class. On the other hand some would self-identify as proletarians. In reality many members of this class are transitory as Marx had originally argued. In the United States, where social class affiliation lacks some of the structure and rules of many other nations, "bourgeoisie" is sometimes used to refer to those seen as being either upper class or upper middle class.
