Cash for Clunkers

Speaking of Cash for Clunkers:

No one disputes the results of the "cash for clunkers" rebate program: It succeeded in blowing through nearly all its $1 billion in a week and can burn rubber at least through the weekend.

Here's a pictorial summation of how we have gone through a billion dollars in a week:

Yep. That's right. Money in the dumpster. (AP photo)

Says Alan Greenspan of the Cash for Clunkers:

"It's an interesting issue. I mean, I have qualms about the concept, but there is no doubt that that very extraordinary response is a very important indicator that the state of confidence in the economy is beginning to pick up. If we had been -- the clunker program had been put in place six months ago, it would have probably been a dud," Greenspan said on ABC's "This Week."

Greenspan is of the position that the rush to buy cars and collect on that free Clunker Money is not causing an economic rebound, but rather is the result of an easing recession.

Which recession, BTW, was predicted to be ending anyway. And should have been easing even before Obama started dumping trillions into the various economic dumpsters.

Broken promises

From this morning's headlines:

Obama Officials Don't Dismiss Possibility of New Taxes

Obama may have to break his campaign pledge and raise taxes on middle-class Americans to pay for public health care and the growing deficit.

Because, though the drinkers of the Obamanian Kool-Aid haven't figured it out quite yet, somebody has to pay for all this New Socialism being shoved down our throats like a crap sandwich.

With an expected deficit next year of $1.8 trillion, and spending still being planned for a $1 trillion, 10-year health care reform, officials say something will have to be done to prevent further erosion of the economy. "We will not get this economy back on track, recovery will be not strong and sustained, unless we ... can convince the American people that we're going to have the will to bring these deficits down once recovery is firmly established," Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner said on ABC's "This Week." Asked point blank whether it was right to suggest it is a matter of when, not if, taxes will be raised, Geithner responded, "It is absolutely right."

This week with George Stephanopoulis

In this Reuters photo, Timothy "Eunuch of the Treasury" Geithner offers a toast during a meeting with the Chinese on July 28. Gotta suck up to the Chinese, you see, since they own so much of the country these days. Betcha that isn't Dago Red from Roy's that little Timmy is sucking down with our Chinese 'friends'.

Somebody has to pay for that "Cash for Clunkers" nonsense.

Somebody has to pay for that Porculus Americanus.

And somebody is going to have to pay for Obamacare.

Who do you suppose that might be?

As for broken campaign promises ... what campaign promises has Obama kept? Why should this announcement come as any surprise?

Here's another commentary, over on Day by Day:

"Not in my experience ...

Of course not. Geithner is one of those Obamanians who got a bye on his 'tax malfunctions'.

Obama and his racist thugs

So the mainstream media is busy gushing over, fawning over, and falling over, all over The Beer Summit.

We actually had the talking heads going on in wonder over what kind of beer would be served at Obama's lovefest at the White House, where he, Joe "The Mouth" Biden, Skip Gates, and Cambridge PD Sergeant Crowley all got together to hash things out over "GatesGate".

All because Gates played the race card.

But what about Obama's racist thug pals in the Department of Justice? In the Democratic Party?

What am I going on about?

Don't you remember how Attorney General Eric Holden's Department of Justice just rolled and completely ignored the default judgments against the New Black Panthers and their voter intimidation up in Phillie?

There's quite a bit more from our president's pals.

Here ya go:

The New Black Panther Party's teachable moments on race

That's how it is in Obama's "post-racial" America.

More of Obama's lies ...

The Chieftain has a good editorial on The Wonder of Obamacare:

The New Whammy

in which the writer mentions Nancy "The Mouse" Pelosi's proposal for a 5.4% 'surtax' to pay for Obamacare.

Remember when Obama was going on about how those who make less than $250,000 wouldn't see a tax increase? And then it kindasorta dropped to $150,000, maybe?

Now it's on everyone, thanks to that whackjob we have as a Speaker of the House, 3rd in the order of succession to the presidency. If she gets her way, which is by no means a set in stone thing at this point.

Then there is the proposal to raise the payroll tax by as much as 10% to pay for Medicare and Social Security.

Here's where it gets downright surreal. The Dems who are proposing that one have written it so that employers cannot reduce salaries to get that 10%. Which means it comes out of the employers' pockets.

These Congressional buffoons have been in 'deficit-thinking' mode for so long they think business and families can operate the same way as the federal and state governments ... just keep spending, even if the money ain't there.

What's going to happen if this one flies, is that the small business employing - for example - ten people - is going to have to lay off some of them so as to pay the increased payroll tax. Your small businessman can't crap a pile of money every time Congress comes up with a new bit of fiscal stupidity. It just doesn't work that way. Something has to give, so take a guess at what it will be?

If a family on fixed income - and what family isn't, these days - suffers a tax increase, where will the money for those new taxes come from? Something will have to be cut. Food, car repairs, home repairs, medical or dental treatments, clothes for the kids ... something will have to be cut from the family budget.

You simply cannot crap all over small business and expect anyone to do better because of it. CongressClowns just don't get that. They don't. They are operating in some kind of fantasy land.

And our Colorado Democratic Delegation is part and parcel of it.

Cash for Clunkers

By now, anyone who is even nominally awake has heard that the Cash for Clunkers program is running out of money. They've gone through a billion bux -yes, that's right, $1,000,000,000 - in just a week. In one week! And the Democrats in the House are busting their buns to pull another $2,000,000,000 into the Cash for Clunkers Great Public Funding Ripoff.

It's amazing! The United States government has spent a billion of your tax bux and mine to buy pieces of crap that are going to go straight to the crusher. They've paid way over the market value for these clunkers.

Boy howdy, but if I was going to suck down those bux, I think I'd buy a Ford. Ford doesn't have the government's sticky fingers all over it as do GM and Chrysler.

It's like the City of La Junta buying up broken down Walmart bicycles for $400 - or pick your own amount, it's fairly arbitrary - so long as you buy a new bicycle that has slightly better gear ratios - and throwing the old bikes in the landfill.

Michael Ramirez has a good cartoon about this:

Cash for Clunkers
